Originally bred to hunt rabbits and hare, the friendly, laidback Basset Hound is a scenthound with droopy features, long floppy ears, loose skin, and short sturdy legs giving it a unique heavy-footed shuffle during walks. Bassets require regular ear cleanings, enjoy lounging and walks more than strenuous exercise, and retain strong tracking instincts focused on food or interesting smells. They are devoted companions with grooming easily accomplished by regular brushing sessions and the occasional bath.
